FAQs

What is Ohana Pet Resort?

Ohana is Hawaiian for family. We wanted our new name to reflect our commitment to your furry family members. We are family owned and all of our staff have their own fur babies. We believe pets are an important part of our families.

Ohana Pet Resort is a family owned and operated facility with spacious suites in a safe and clean environment for your pets to stay and play. We designed the resort to be a cut above the rest – no bacteria-harboring chain link kennels, tight boarding quarters, cramped unsupervised daycare rooms, obnoxious odors or an inconvenient out of the way location.

Ohana Pet Resort is the perfect vacation destination for all your pets. Our experience and dedication to giving your pets the attention and care they need during their stay will allow you to relax and enjoy your time away.

We offer boarding for a variety of pets including dogs, cats and most cages animals, including but not limited to birds, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits, hermit crabs, etc. *

How is Ohana Pet Resort different from the boarding kennel or vet I use now for my pet?

  • We have an all-suite facility with affordable pricing

  • We offer group play (3 -7 dogs) and private playtimes to ensure the safety of your pets

  • Low pet to staff ratios help keep your pet safe

  • We do not have regular injuries that many large facilities do, due to the small size of our play groups

  • Dogs feel more comfortable in small groups

  • Our caregivers are hand-picked for their love of pets

  • Our facility is designed with safety in mind

  • We cater to your pet's every need.

What should I bring?

Dogs: We provide a comfy raised Karunda bed, blanket and food/water bowls for your dog. During playtime we      have toys available. Please bring their own food and medication. We prefer for clients to bring portioned baggies of food for each meal but do not require it. You may also choose to bring your dog's own washable blanket, a small washable item that may smell like you for comfort (t-shirt, pillowcase) and a sturdy toy. Please bring all dogs on a leash.

Do not bring anything your dog may ingest. Do not bring any glass or ceramic items.

We discourage bringing beds, lots of toys, clothing, and chews.

Cats: We provide a spacious cat condo, litter box and food/water bowls. Please bring food, medications, and one toy that they will not ingest. We do not have cat food so please be sure to send enough for your stay. Please bring all cats in a carrier.

Critters/Birds: We do not provide any items for critters and birds. You will need to bring a cage, bedding, food and water bowls, and food and medications. We do not offer critter food so please be sure to bring enough for your entire stay.

How often is each suite cleaned?

We don't believe our pet guests can be safe and comfortable in a dirty room. So each of our suites are cleaned daily. In addition, all suites are inspected throughout the day and cleaned whenever needed. Suites/beds/bedding are fully cleaned and sanitized after each stay. Cat litter is cleaned twice daily.

Where do you take the dogs during walks?

Dogs are "walked" throughout the day in our exercise yards complete with forever lawns and/or our indoor playrooms. We refer to each playtime as a walk but this is not in the traditional sense. We do not simply walk them on a leash around and then back in. It is more like you would let them out at home - free to run, romp, sniff and relax at their own pace.

How long do the dogs walk?

Walks are approximately 15-20 minutes outside on a constant rotation throughout the day.

 Do you board aggressive pets?

If your pet is aggressive towards other pets, they can board with us and they will play privately with a staff member. However, for the safety of our staff, if we believe that your pet may be aggressive towards people, we will advise you that we are not the best place for your pet to stay.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs for dogs and cats staying at Ohana Pet Resort?

While we highly recommend you provide your own food for the comfort of your pets, our house brand is Fromm Gold for our canine guests. There is a $5 per day fee if you wish to use the house food.

We can accommodate any special diets a guest might have. If you have a special food just bring the food with you and provide us with directions.

Are vaccinations required before a dog or cat can stay at Ohana Pet Resort?

Yes, please see our vaccination requirements before reserving your stay.

Can I call or email to check on my pet?

We encourage you to call or email us to check on your pet. We also post daily pics in our private Facebook group for clients -- Ohana Pet Pals.  We also post highlights to our public social media pages. We avoid using pet names on these public pages for safety.

If my pets have a medical emergency does Ohana Pet Resort have access to an emergency vet?

Your pet's health and safety are of highest importance to us and we have established procedures to ensure that we are ready if a pet experiences a health situation while in our care. Should your pet need veterinary care, we take your pet to their regular vet if available or to our neighborhood vet. After hours, we will take your pet to an emergency veterinary facility. We will persistently contact you until we reach you if there is an emergency concern with your pet.

I have never boarded my pet before. Should I worry?

Relax. You can feel confident and worry-free about your decision to place your pets in our care. As pet owners ourselves, we know boarding your pet is typically much more stressful for you than your pets. We've taken every measure to ensure you have peace of mind that your pets will be safe, loved and have a great time while in our care.

Besides when I vacation, what are some other occasions when I could use Ohana Pet Resort?
